Welcome to the Machining and CAD/CAM program at the WMCTC:

Students in the Machining and CAD/CAM program learn to shape metals and other materials on machines such as lathes, grinders, drill presses, mills, and band saws both manually and, in some cases, through the sophisticated application of computers.  Computer-aided design (CAD) and Computer-aided Manufacturing (CAM) are integrated in this program.  A student may elect to participate in CAD drafting two days a week to learn the fundamentals of drawing and/or design of parts.  This then can be used with CAM to program computer controlled machines to produce parts. Use of precision measuring tools and working within very close tolerances is necessary.  The CTC machine shop uses state-of-the-art industrial equipment which is similar in all respects to that found in area industry.

The Machining and CAD/CAM Field:

Machinists and drafters work closely to produce products in manufacturing.  Drafters create detailed drawings of products and machinery based on specifications and sketches that are supplied by engineers and designers. The finished drawings are used as working plans for the manufacturing of parts in the machine shop.
