Welcome to the Cosmetology program at the WMCTC:
This course
provides the laboratory and classroom work necessary in preparation for the
State of Michigan Licensing Exam. A student who is in the program for two years
will not accumulate the necessary 1600 hours unless they attend the school on
some Saturdays during the school year and during the summer. Some students
choose to complete their hours after high school graduation. Students will
learn hair shaping and cutting, permanent waving, hair coloring, styling,
manicuring, skin care, facials and make-up and scalp treatment. In addition
they will be given instruction in salon management.
The Cosmetology Field:
The human
services field is expecting larger than average growth in the years to come.
Cosmetology is a career in the human services field which offers job
opportunities all over the world. Students interested in cosmetology should
enjoy working with people, problem-solving, and should work well under pressure.
Those who are friendly, outgoing, understanding and cooperative may find a
career in cosmetology. To be a Cosmetologist in the State of Michigan a person
must complete 1600 hours of training and take a licensing exam.
