School Improvement Plan
The Wexford-Missaukee Intermediate School District (WMISD) is looking for qualified individuals who are available to substitute teach in any or all of the schools in the ISD. Substitute teachers for all school in the WMISD (Cadillac, Lake City, Manton, Marion, McBain, Mesick and Pine River) register through WillSub.
The requirements to apply for a Michigan Substitute Teacher Permit:
Completion of 90 semester hours of satisfactory (2.0 minimum GPA) college credit consolidated at one four-year college or university which is accredited by either a regional accrediting agency or by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Supply an up-to-date transcript of credits completed, or a copy of a current or expired Michigan teaching certificate

Substitute Teacher Permit Application
Authorization to contact previous or current employer
Statement of criminal record
Have fingerprints taken for a criminal record check with the FBI and Michigan State Police
Cost to register:
$45.00 annual fee for the substitute teacher permit (billed annually by the State of Michigan)
$64.25 for the criminal record check (payable by the individual)
The substitute permit is valid for teaching on a day-to-day substitute basis for a minimum of 150 days during a school year. The substitute permit is not valid for any regular or extended teaching.

Prevention Consultant/Truancy Officer
Prevention Services is located under the General Education Department at the Wexford-Missaukee ISD. Prevention Services has changed over the years to adapt to the needs of the local schools and communities. A prevention plan is developed annually based on collected data. Through the Support of Northern Michigan Substance
Abuse Services (NMSAS), Shelly Marcusse, Prevention Consultant, has provided focus and direct services to students and community groups for over 15 years.
The Prevention Plan was developed with data
collected from the Western Michigan School Survey, Communities That Care Data, The Wexford-Missaukee
Community Assets/Needs Assessment, and other state and local sources. Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services mandates that prevention efforts fit into one of the five following categories.
Information Dissemination includes health fairs, material and curriculum development, media campaigns and speaking engagements

Education includes classroom education services, Peer Leader Programs Parenting and Small Group Sessions
Problem ID and Referral includes student assistance programs and prevention assessment and referrals
Community Based Process includes assessing community needs, formal community teams, training services, systematic planning and technical assistance
Environmental includes public policy efforts and establishing ATOD-Free polices
- Drug Free Schools Coordination/Prevention Services
The Safe and Drug Free Schools Consultant through Prevention Services of the Wexford Missaukee ISD meets and communicates regularly with the SDFS coordinators of the local school districts. The WMISD consultant assists local school districts in the planning, writing, evaluating and meeting any requirements of the Safe and Drug Free Schools Grant. The Safe and Drug Free Schools Consultant helps schools in establishing and completing their drug and violence prevention goals for each school year. The WMISD Consultant also represents local school districts as a member of a variety of community coalitions, such as Team-Up, Tobacco Reduction Coalition, Abstinence Coalition,
Strong Families/Safe Children, Mentoring Coalition and Child Protection Council.

State Board Continuing Education Units (SB-CEUs)
In an effort of
support the professional development of educators within our ISD, we continue to provide SB-CEUs. This program provides the Michigan educators the option of earning continued education units (CEUs) by participating in training programs, workshops, and/or conferences sponsored by either Northern Lower Michigan Leadership Teaching and Learning Consortium (NLMLTLC) or Wexford-Missaukee ISD (WMISD).
The SB-CEUs earned may be used for the renewal of any Michigan education certificate.

Curriculum Support and Coordination
Wexford-Missaukee ISD facilitates curriculum coordination across the WMISD through the Curriculum Task Force Committee. The Curriculum Task Force includes a representative from local district. The Curriculum Task Force meets once per month. The goals of the Curriculum Task Force are:

Advanced and Accelerated (Gifted and Talented) Service:
Michigan Department of Education provided grant funds to support advanced and
accelerated services at Wexford-Missaukee ISD. Those funds are now cut. We do continue to
have resources to support parents, teachers and administrators through locating resources and materials for meeting the needs of Advanced and Accelerated students. We have a variety of Professional Development resources: videos and facilitator's guides on differentiating instruction in REMC 2 South. Please check on web/max III for booking these items.

Grants
Wexford-Missaukee ISD has been very
successful in the receipt of grants over the years. The success is due to the ability of our local districts and the ISD to work together and set common goals. Among the grants we have received recently are Goals 2000 (Professional Development) and Technology Literacy (equipment, training, software).
