Previous Technology Planning

During the summer planning, on June 28-29, 1994, the superintendents from the Wexford-Missaukee ISD reviewed emerging technologies which led to discussion and planning activities in the area of long tern strategic plan for technology. The superintendents agreed to pursue the possibilities of developing an infrastructure for the Intermediate School District which would give individual districts access to a full range of telecommunications resources in a cost effective manner. Integrated Systems Development, Inc. was asked to submit a proposal for developing a prototype "master plan" for the Wexford-Missaukee ISD that included the areas of voice, data, and video. In September, data gathering began with each of the districts and the Career Technical Center. Data gathering included inventorying the use of video and data networks in each district and capabilities of each district’s phone switches. This data was utilized and a comprehensive Long Term Strategic Technology Plan was developed.

Bid specs and project management agreements were made with John Child and Associates and a comprehensive voice, data, and video network was installed and operationalized. This plan was subsequently modified and additional activities were added that included connectivity, collaborative purchasing of educational and administrative software, expanded ITV classes and dual enroll among other aspects of the modified plan.

Current Collaborative Projects:

§  Collaborative REMC purchase of UnitedStreaming

§  WMISD maintains video bridge for use at no charge to local districts

§  The ISD pays a connection charge of $4600 a month for internet port/T3 charge (the Internet connection to the outside world) which is currently not being passed on to local districts.  WMISD is currently using Durant Funds to offset this cost

§  The ISD hosts Class Server software allowing teachers to deliver instruction promoting curriculum standards based teaching and learning as well as electronic delivery of common assessments

§  The ISD hosts eCurriculum an online tool for the organization of materials supporting the Michigan Content Expectations
