Challenge:
An Intermediate School
District education technology plan with
standard life span of three, four or
five years can not remain vital in the
rapidly changing environment where
technological innovations and
instructional applications of technology
occur continually. The evolution
of technology does not recognize or
reflect education activity cycles.
An out-dated plan or out-dated
recommendations in a plan fail to
provide leadership to the Intermediates'
educational community.
Recommendation:
The Wexford-Missaukee ISD
Technology Plan (2009-2012) must serve
as "a living document" to be evaluated,
supplemented and assessed, at minimum,
on an annual basis be the administrative
team, technology committee, and
intermediate wide technology committee
representing the input of local school
districts. The plan and any
proposed changes or new initiatives will
be presented to the Board of Education
for consideration.
Rationale and Implementation:
The implementation of a
meaningful and successful technology
program can not be accomplished in an
as-hoc fashion. There is a need
for coherent policy and a guiding
strategic plan based on a broad range of
input and expertise. Plans written
to span multiple years become outdated
and meaningless. This can impede
progress when it is recognized that
plans have outlived their usefulness and
there is not clear, shared vision or
direction in which to proceed.
Success:
The completion of an
annual review and assessment of the plan
with appropriate recommended
modifications. A review of
timelines will occur with progress
toward goals and recommendations noted.
