 Our View of Early Literacy

Wexford-Missaukee ISD believes that literacy begins at birth.  We support the local preschools and the Cradle to Classroom program that services children 0-5 and their families.  We coordinate literacy training with the Special Education Department who have trained individuals as trainers in the P.L.A.Y.ful Literacy Program.  Playful Literacy and You! Encourages teachers and parents to focus on all aspects of literacy development from oral and written language to reading and developing a life long reader.

We must ensure that ALL children enter school ready to read. Learning to read and write is critical for success in school and throughout life. By starting early, we recognize learning to read begins long before a child enters school.

The evidence is now beyond dispute. When schools work together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life!
